Why did humans leave Atmora?

Ysgramor gathered those who wished to leave Atmora due to the violent civil war. They sailed south and eventually the fleet landed at Hsaarik Head at the northern tip of Skyrim’s Broken Cape. It was here they built the legendary city of Saarthal.

Is Atmora still inhabited?

There is some suggestion that, as of the early Third Era, Atmora was still inhabited, but expeditions there in the mid- to late-Third Era only found a place of permanent winter with little life and no sign of human habitation. The freezing gales coming from Atmora could be felt as far as Skyrim.

Atmorans are bigger versions of Nords. Plus they are more magically-inclined, doesn’t shun use of magic like Nords we see in Skyrim, was said to have special runic magic and weapon enchantments.
