When it comes to versatility of use, sandstone and limestone are both great choices – their strength, durability and range of finishes and colours mean they can adapt to almost any style of garden. Sandstone makes fantastic patio and garden path paving for any property type, contemporary or traditional.

How long does sandstone paving last?

Indian sandstone paving can have a very long lifespan if installed and maintained properly. With a cheap installer and poor care you can expect 2 – 10 years from your paving. With a solid base and repointing every few years you can in theory get 30 – 50 years from your paving or perhaps more.

How do you color sandstone?

There is no standard for staining sandstone. Some sealer manufacturers sell enhancers that give the stone more of a dark rich look. If the stone is porous enough it should accept a stain and then should be sealed afterwards, unless the stain is also a sealer.

Does sandstone come in different colours?

The color of sandstone varies, depending on its composition. Argillaceous sandstones are often gray to blue. Because it is composed of light colored minerals, sandstone is typically light tan in color. Other elements, however, create colors in sandstone.

Does sandstone stain easily?

Thanks to sandstone’s naturally porous nature it can soak up liquids and get stained quickly if it’s not cleaned properly. Tip: NEVER wash your sandstone when you think it might become frosty as that will shatter the slabs.

Are there different grades of Indian sandstone?

The durability and strength of these rocks depend on the cementing material. The best quality Indian sandstone for garden paving, should be of fine grain and uniform texture. Generally, the sandstone is available in red, beige, pink, green, grey, brown, yellow, mint, teak, and in rainbow colour.

Is Indian stone Slippy?

The short answer is no, Indian sandstone is not slippery. In fact, it’s naturally slip resistant! So, while Indian sandstone isn’t non-porous, it’s this minuscule grainy texture of sandstone which makes it naturally slip resistant.
