At 84 miles long, the Norfolk Coast Path covers some stunning areas along Norfolk’s coastline. Stretching all the way from Hunstanton in the west to Hopton-on-Sea in the south east, you’re spoilt for choice for things to see along the trail.

The Norfolk Coast Path starts in the town of Hunstanton and passes along Norfolk’s heritage coast to Hopton-on-Sea. The path encounters cliffs, sand dunes, creeks and golden beaches, following the sea the whole way.

Why is it called Peddars Way?

It starts in an area west of Thetford called Knettishall Heath. Later, in the 15th and 16th Century this route was named the Peddars Way in honour of the pilgrims who walked to the religious village of Walsingham and the Priory there. This was, and still is, an extremely important pilgrimage route.

Where does the Norfolk Coastal Path start in Hunstanton?

It’s a very easy walk as all you need to do is follow the Norfolk Coast Path signs, which are prominent along the path until you reach Holme. The Norfolk Coast Path starts by the bandstand on The Green in Hunstanton. Once you reach Holme (the end of the golf course) you head inland to the village.

How long can a person walk without stopping?

If a walker is well-trained and is taking breaks and a meal stop, then 20 miles a day is reasonable. If you take no breaks and are going fast, you may be able to cover 30 miles if you have steadily built your mileage over the course of three to six months.
